As an instructional designer, I can apply my passion for education and technology in new and exciting ways. I’ve honed my visual skills for design and learned new technologies like Articulate Storyline, Rise, and the Adobe Creative Cloud tools. I enjoy working with subject matter experts to create valuable and engaging learning opportunities for our members. Currently, I am working to create a unique learning path for members of our small cities, which make up the majority of our membership throughout Minnesota.
I started my professional career as a science educator. While in education, I stood out as an innovator. I helped with a 1:1 digital device initiative for our school district, facilitated the implementation and use of an LMS for our school district, and served as a district trainer for technology for several years. I also adapted my classroom to meet the needs of my students by establishing a blended learning environment and integrating the basics of computational thinking and universal design into my science curriculum.
My transition from the education field to the private sector was unexpected but greatly improved my work-life balance. Working as a Science Test Development Specialist was a good transition for me as it allowed me to use my knowledge as a content expert in a new approach. While working as a Science Test Development Specialist, I developed project management skills and worked with diverse clients. Learning how to meet the needs of individual clients while adhering to assessment and pedagogy best practices was a unique and rewarding challenge. After several years, I found myself missing the educational focus on content, so I transitioned into the role of an instructional designer.
